How to open a bank account for a new business?
You can apply online for a bank account for your new business. It’s usually a quick process, but you might need to talk to someone on the phone if your circumstances are a bit different. When you’ve chosen the bank you want to have to, apply using their online application process for more information about setting up your account. Whether you’re opening a current account or savings account, you’ll usually need to provide:
- Companies House registration number.
- Details about your business, including tax information, turnover and capital.
- Details of all directors or partners, including name, date of birth, address and National Insurance numbers.

How much do new business bank accounts cost?
The large majority of business bank accounts will charge a monthly fee and some charge extra for account transactions too. The monthly fee usually ranges from £5-15, but it can be more. There may also be a one-off set-up fee, which can cost anything from £10-70, but this is fairly unusual. Online banks generally charge a monthly fee that covers the majority of account management, but traditional banks will often charge separately for specific withdrawals, payments between countries, and requesting a new card. It is worth looking at the transaction charges and comparing them against the type of transactions that you will be making as there are often plans that cater for those who make more counter transactions or those that make predominantly electronically based banking transactions.
